Scripture Focus: "So Abraham called that place The Lord Will Provide. And to this day it is said, ‘On the mountain of the Lord it will be provided.’” —Genesis 22:14“Go, consecrate the people. Reflection
As parents and guardians, stepping into a new school year can stir up so many emotions—joy, nervousness, excitement, even worry. But here’s the truth we can anchor ourselves to: God is Jehovah Jireh—The Lord Who Provides. Just as He provided the ram in the thicket for Abraham when he thought all hope was lost, God still provides for us today. He provides for our children in ways seen and unseen. He provides peace when we’re anxious, wisdom when we feel stretched thin, and strength when we don’t know what to do. Because He is who He is, we can walk in the assurance that He goes before us and makes a way.
But here’s the other side: God doesn’t just want us to receive His provision—He calls us to prepare for it. In Joshua 7, God told Israel they couldn’t stand against their enemies until they removed the “devoted things.” Achan had taken what God told them not to touch, and it brought defeat to the whole community. Now, I’m not saying anyone here is stealing like Achan, but it’s a reminder: sin is anything we say, do, or think that doesn’t please God.
So before we ask God to lead our families in this new school year, we should pause and ask: Have I sinned? What do I need to leave behind? What distractions or habits do I need to remove? What’s hidden in my “tent” that doesn’t belong?
For us as parents, “devoted things” could look like:
Holding onto unforgiveness or bitterness.
Comparing ourselves or our children to others.
Letting negative media or conversations shape our minds and moods.
Clinging to fear, worry, or control instead of trusting God.
Carrying secret sins or habits we hope no one notices.
When we consecrate ourselves—removing what doesn’t belong and fixing our hearts, minds, and homes on Jesus—we position ourselves to walk fully in God’s provision. As we sharpen pencils and pack lunches, let’s also prepare our spirits. Jehovah Jireh has already gone before us, and when we make space for Him, He provides everything we and our children will need this year.
Declarations for Parents & Guardians
Speak these out loud—over yourself, your children, and your home:
Jehovah Jireh provides for every need—seen and unseen.
My children are covered, protected, and strengthened because God goes before them.
My home is set apart and aligned with God’s will.
I remove distractions and fix my mind, body, and soul on Jesus.
My children walk in God’s favor, wisdom, and purpose.
Because God provides, I parent with joy and confidence.
Prayer
Jehovah Jireh, thank You for being our Provider. Just like You provided the ram for Abraham, You provide everything my family and I need—seen and unseen. Today, I consecrate myself and my home to You. Remove anything in me that doesn’t belong. Fix my heart, mind, and body on Jesus. Go before my children in every classroom, friendship, and challenge. Cover them with Your favor and guide them with Your wisdom. Thank You that I don’t have to do this alone—You are with me and You are for me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
