“Then God looked over all he had made, and he saw that it was very good!”-Genesis 1:31a, NLT
Goodness is doing what is right, even when no one is watching. It’s choosing integrity over convenience, truth over being popular, and compassion over indifference. It’s the inner character of God being lived out in real ways through us.
Because of Jesus’ death and resurrection, we are made new, redeemed, and restored to be vessels of God’s goodness. We’re not good on our own; it is Christ in us that empowers us to choose what is right. The fruit of the Spirit grows in us as we lean into God daily, especially through prayer, Scripture, and obedience.
At Xtreme Bible Camp, opportunities to show goodness are everywhere. You might feel tired, rushed, or unnoticed, but your quiet acts of good matter deeply. Whether it’s staying behind to sweep glitter off the floor, noticing a kid is alone and needs a friend, or choosing to give someone else the credit, you are shining the light of Christ in those moments.
Jesus said in Matthew 5:16, “Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” That’s what goodness does—it points to God, not ourselves. Your commitment to goodness may not always be easy, but it always matters.
Reflect
Be honest with your words, even if it’s hard to admit a mistake.
Show fairness in games and group dynamics—every child deserves dignity.
Display generosity with your time, attention, and goodness—especially to the ones who are often overlooked.
Live with integrity, doing the right thing whether or not someone is watching.
Journal
Think about a time during camp when you had a choice: do what’s easy or do what’s right. What did you choose? How did it make you feel afterward? Where might God be calling you to stretch in goodness today?
Challenge
Do one act of quiet goodness today, something only you and God may notice. This could be refilling a water cooler, picking up forgotten trash, helping a volunteer without being asked, or giving your undivided attention to a child who’s having a tough time. Let it be a pure act of worship.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for being good and for placing Your Spirit in us so we may walk in that same goodness. Remind us today that even small acts of integrity reflect Your greatness. Help us be honest, fair, and full of compassion as we serve. Let our actions lead others to see Your light in us. When we’re tired or tempted to cut corners, give us the strength to honor You with excellence. Let our lives testify to Your goodness in every word and deed. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Afternoon Encouragement
In a world full of noise and distractions, goodness shines like a beacon. When you choose honesty, go the extra mile, or encourage someone quietly, you're reflecting God’s heart. Your faithful service, no matter how small it feels, is deeply seen and valued by God.
God is working it all out for your good. You reflect God’s goodness every time you act with integrity, speak with kindness, or do the right thing when no one is watching. Let your light shine through one intentional act of goodness, encourage someone, go out of your way to help, or show up with joy and excellence.
Prayer Focus
Ask God to help you walk in goodness today. Pray that others see His love through your actions and feel the warmth of His light shining through you.
